About Excision & Removal Procedures

Expert Surgical Care for Skin Growths with Precision and Comfort
At Sparderm, our Minor Surgical Dermatology unit provides expert care for the removal of various skin growths, ranging from benign moles and worrisome warts to potentially malignant skin lesions. Performed by our skilled dermatologists in our sterile, state-of-the-art procedure room, these excision techniques are designed to be precise, effective, and minimally disruptive to your life. We prioritize your complete comfort and safety, ensuring that every procedure, whether for cosmetic or medical reasons, is conducted with the highest standard of care and followed by optimal healing for the best aesthetic outcome.

Our Step-by-Step Approach to Safe and Effective Removal

We believe in transparent, step-by-step care to give you complete peace of mind.

Comprehensive Pre-Procedure Evaluation
Every procedure begins with a thorough examination of the skin lesion. We discuss your medical history, the reason for removal (cosmetic, preventive, or diagnostic), and the most suitable technique, ensuring you are fully informed and comfortable with the plan.
Meticulous Procedure Execution
On the day of the procedure, the area is thoroughly cleansed and numbed with local anaesthesia to ensure a pain-free experience. Our dermatologists then use specialised surgical instruments to perform the excision with extreme precision, preserving as much healthy skin as possible.
Thorough Aftercare for Optimal Healing
The procedure concludes with detailed, personalised aftercare instructions. We provide guidance on wound care, activity restrictions, and sun protection to promote smooth healing and minimise the risk of scarring. We also schedule a follow-up to monitor your recovery and, if applicable, discuss the biopsy report.

Our Range of Expert Removal Techniques

We tailor the removal method to the type, size, and location of your skin lesion.

Simple Excision
This is the most common method for removing moles, cysts, and other lumps. Using a scalpel, the dermatologist removes the entire lesion along with a small margin of healthy skin. The wound is then closed with fine sutures to ensure minimal, discreet scarring.
Shave Excision
Ideal for raised, benign lesions like skin tags or seborrheic keratosis, this procedure involves skillfully “shaving” the growth off at the skin level with a surgical blade. This technique typically requires no stitches and healing is usually quick with minimal to no scarring.
Electrocautery
This technique uses a high-frequency electrical current to precisely burn and destroy the tissue. It is highly effective for removing small skin tags, warts, and vascular lesions, and is also used to achieve haemostasis (stop bleeding) after a shave excision.
Cryosurgery
For superficial lesions like warts and certain pre-cancerous spots (actinic keratosis), we use cryotherapy. This involves applying liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy the abnormal cells, which then slough off as the skin heals.
Punch Biopsy
When a precise, full-thickness sample of a skin lesion is needed for accurate diagnosis, a punch biopsy is the gold standard. This tool removes a small, circular core of tissue, which is then sent for histopathological analysis to guide further treatment.
Your skin’s health and your peace of mind are our top priorities. Whether you seek removal for medical necessity or personal preference, you can trust our surgical expertise to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care every step of the way.
